You’re guaranteed to have an out-of-this-world experience seeing Pig Iron Theatre Company’s latest extravaganza, I Promised Myself To Live Faster, on stage at FringeArts on the Delaware River waterfront May 22-31.
As might be expected from Pig Iron, one of Philadelphia’s most adventurous theater troupes, the show has a spirited premise: A broken-hearted gay guy named Tim embarks on a journey through outer space a journey Pig Iron is calling “an intergalactic gay extravaganza.”
During his travels, the intrepid protagonist encounters an order of intergalactic nuns who put him on a quest to capture the Holy Gay Flame that’s held hostage by an evil emperor. The stakes are high: Tim must reclaim the Holy Gay Flame to help save the universe.
This wild tale heads off in delirious directions. It features a cast of campy over-the-top characters and fabulous comedic costumes.
As fun as it is, there’s also a serious side that plays on the quest for personal identity and the need to find meaning in your life in a world where no one is promised a tomorrow.
So you know, the melodrama is plenty bawdy and is recommended for mature audiences.
