If there is a good time to play the Patriots, then the Eagles may have found it…

EagsvsPats

The New England Patriots are really banged up right now—I mean more than most teams are really banged up this time of year. That doesn’t make going on the road this weekend to face the 10-1 Patriots any less daunting a challenge for the 4-7 Eagles. It just means there will be some matchups which are a little more favorable to Eagles personnel in this game than there would have been had this game been scheduled about 6 weeks ago.

One of the injury-factor problems for a veteran group like the Patriots was having their Bye week in Week 4— even for the defending champs that was too early to really be of much healing benefit.

Still any advantage the Eagles may have in the health department will be minimized by the fact that the Patriots are arguably the best-coached and best-prepared team in the league.

But it’s stunning to look at the injury progression for the Pats—here’s a timeline supplied by Pats Pulpit:

“Week 5 Cowboys: Left tackle Nate Solder lost for the season with torn biceps.

“Week 6 Colts: Left tackle Marcus Cannon is sidelined for four weeks with a toe injury, left guard Shaq Mason misses the next two games with a knee injury.

“Week 7 Jets: No injuries, but wide receiver Brandon LaFell returns from the PUP! Minor reprieve!

“Week 8 Dolphins: Right guard Tre Jackson injuries his knee and misses the next three games.

“Week 9 Washington: Running back Dion Lewis is lost for the year with an ACL injury, left tackle Sebastian Vollmer misses the next game with a concussion.

“Week 10 Giants: Wide receiver Julian Edelman is out for the rest of the regular season with a foot injury.

“Week 11 Bills: Wide receiver Aaron Dobson is lost for the season with an ankle injury, while wide receiverDanny Amendola is lost for an indefinite period of time with a sprained knee.

“Week 12 Broncos: Tight end Rob Gronkowski makes us hold our breath.”

“This isn’t factoring in center Bryan Stork hurting his neck in the preseason, or fullback James Develin injuring his shin. It’s not including tight end Michael Williams (knee) or wide receiverKeshawn Martin (hamstring) or interior lineman Ryan Wendell(knee), who were injured during practice sessions. Only Solder, Wendell, Lewis, and Dobson have definitely been lost for the rest of the year.”

As for Gronk, the latest report out is he has a deep knee bruise and nothing is torn—but it looks like the Eagles won’t have to deal with that matchup nightmare on Sunday—I have to believe Gronk sits this one out.

As an appetizer going into mid-week preparation mode, here’s a Team Stats matchup provided by the Patriots.com website:
