Ready for a dose of joie de vivre?
The Parisian-imported pop-up fete Dner en Blanc returns to Philadelphia this August for its fourth year of white-clad celebrations in an iconic location in the City of Brotherly Love.
On Thursday, August 20, 4,300 participants — up from 3,500 in 2014 — will stream through the city to a photogenic Philadelphia public space for a magical evening of dining, drinking, dancing, fashion, music and pageantry.
Dner en Blanc started as a casual reunion for a small group of Parisian friends, who all wore white (hence the "blanc") to ensure easy recognition of one another. That was in 1988.
This year, the worldwide event pops up in dozens of cities all across the world with tens of thousands of white-clothed revelers attending private, pop-up picnic parties at to-be-disclosed, highly visible locations.
Last year, he secret pop-up location that was revealed the night of the event to be Broad Street from City Hall all the way to Pine Street. It was an epic celebration of 3,500 partygoers.
This year, the pop-up party could be anywhere!
How to Register and Join the Waiting List
Joining the Dner which is part impromptu dinner party, part top-secret scavenger hunt and part elegant soiree takes a lot of enthusiasm and a bit of determination, especially for those who did not attend last year. There are a number of steps to take and rules to follow, not the least of which is to wear only white.
If you didn't join the party last year, register now to get on the waiting list and secure an official invitation. The waiting list is now open here.
For those who did attend last year, invitations to re-activate memberships and claim invitations will go out in early July. Keep an eye out!
Later in July, those on the waiting list will get the chance to scoop up an official invitation. This year, that process will happen via lottery. Sign up for the waiting list now, and then look out for an email in July with an invitation to register on select dates and times. Each waiting list member will have a set period of time to activate the registration code before it expires — so watch that inbox.
Note that not everyone on the waiting list will have a chance to register. There are more than 25,000 on the waiting list right now, and 4,300 people total (past participants and newbies) will attend the event in August.
In 2014, the cost to attend Dner En Blanc was $29.25 per person, plus $5 membership fee. This year’s pricing has yet to be set, but attendees can expect a similar cost.
